How To Take Care of Your Colored Hair

I am quite amused to see that everywhere I look, more and more women are getting into colored locks. Truly time has evolved and women are becoming bold with their beauty choices and fashion sense. Well it’s a good thing! I love to see women exploring and becoming more confident with themselves.

Let’s face it ladies, our hair is our crowning glory and it brings us so much confidence so it is important that we give it the best care possible. A lot of women as I mentioned earlier do color their hair (I am no exception) nowadays. Doesn’t matter if we did it by ourselves or if we paid a couple of bucks to get it done. A hair fresh from the salon, all rich and shiny feels so great and we want that experience to last for a long time. So to help us get the most out of that fresh from the salon experience, I’ve put together some simple tips to keep that coloured treated hair last longer.

Don’t Drown It

Avoid excessive rinsing in the shower “Once you’ve shampooed and conditioned, don’t tilt your head back and let the water just run over it for several minutes,” says Teca Gil-lespie, a scientist with P&G. And if you like to wake up under the faucet in the morning, try to spare your hair.

Shampoo & Conditioning

Use hair color protecting shampoo. I highly recommend Tresemmé Color Revitalize Shampoo as it is specifically formulated to be both gentle and protective for colored hair. Since your hair has been treated with chemicals like ammonia, it is important to always use a “colour protecting conditioner”. Conditioning your hair keeps its moisture balance.

Tip: For deep hair conditioning, try going back to the old but ever effective method in deep conditioning. Use olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil to deep condition the hair.

Avoid Blow Drying

Let your hair dry naturally. If you really have to, switch to cool setting and use a heat protective spray on my hair prior to blow drying and styling.

Swim with Caution

If you must go swimming (I assume not when your hair is newly dyed), always wear a swimming cap before you take a dip. Chlorine is very harmful for coloured hair and leads to faded color fast. Apply a strengthening conditioner or olive oil before taking the plunge.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

What you eat also dictates the health of your hair as the nutrients of the food you eat provides the energy that fuels hair growth and luster. Eat foods that contains iron-rich protein such as lean meat, fish, low-fat cheeses, egg whites, spinach and soy to keep your color-treated hair looking its best. These types of food feed your scalp and hair by building strong keratin, the protein that strengthens hair, improves texture and stimulates growth.

I hope this helps! If you have more tips on maintaining that colored hair or in keeping the hair healthy please share it with us by leaving a comment below :).
