Are You A Shopaholic?

by pinksoda

Shopaholic – a frequent shopper, especially one who is unable to control his or her spending.

So ladies and gents, base on the definition can you tell if you’re a shopaholic or not? Well anyway the argument within yourself whether you’re a shopaholic or not now comes to an end! How much of a shopper are you? Here are 5 signs of compulsive shopping- and how to kick them.

Shopaholic Symptom: You frequently buy things you don’t need or use.
Solution: Pause before purchasing. Ask yourself before any purchase: Do I need this? What if I wait? How will I pay for it? Where will I put it?

Shopaholic Symptom: Whenever you are stressed or sad, you head for the mall.

Solution: Identify the cues that make you want to shop till you drop. Then, find a healthier (and cheaper!) ways to cheer up. Talk to a friend, take a walk, or relax in a bubble bath.

Shopaholic Symptom: You constantly shell out money for things you know you can’t afford.
Solution: Pay with cash to make bingeing mored difficult. Paying with cash hurts a lot more and it helps you keep track of what you’re spending. Find other ways to indulge in your favorite things. If you adore clothes, treat yourself to a thick fashion magazine rather than designer duds.

Shopaholic Symptom: You hide your purchases.
Solution: Don’t shop solo, as most binge-buyers do. Shop with a friend. Ask him/her to help monitor your purchases. You’ll be forever indebted!

Shopaholic Symptom: You buy too much for others.
Solution: Why buy? Show a loved one you care by baking a batch of cookies or creating a book of coupons for favors such as a night of babysitting. Making something from scratch or offering your time means much more than any item.

Okay, now since we are in this online thing and Internet undeniably is giving everyone a wide range of choices when it comes to shopping! Name it and the Internet has it! Here’s a quick truth and fix for your online shopping addiction.

Stay away from online stores! If you want to avoid spending online, temporarily block online store websites from your computer so you won’t be tempted to do a little “window shopping”. It would be even better if you have someone else block these stores, and have them set a password, just so it won’t be as easy for you to unblock these websites from your computer.

Although I am guilty of some of the things mentioned above, I know that I’m still not a Rebecca Bloomwood type of shopaholic and I hope it stays that way. Lol. =)

I admit I’m a shopaholic but there are some factors that doesn’t apply to me, like I shop alone and I buy too many things for others. LOL. Mostly, I buy for myself. I’m such a selfish person. :))
