Okay so I sported a sequined dress before. I was skeptical as anyone would be before I actually decided to give it a go. I wore this on a christmas party with a retro theme. It definitely matched the festive ambiance (at least I thought so :P). It’s a two-toned sequence dress (blue and black). Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a shot of it’s back view.
So anyway, Sequined dresses are no doubt shiny and glamorous! They can make you the star of the night but overdoing it can make you look like that magician assistance waiting to be cut into pieces inside a box.
Here are some tips to wear a sequined dress right:
Jewel tone accessories enhance the outfit – Metallic clutches and deep jewel tone accessories keep up with the sequin dresses. Too much texture difference takes away from the outfit. Remember though, sequins are such bold pieces so go minimal on the accessories. A sleek bag or a simple piece of jewelry is all you need to make a stylish impact.
Stick to only one sequined item per outfit – any more than that will make you look like a disco ball. You can even skip he jewelry unless the occasion’s theme calls for it.
An overlay – you can tone down the glitter with an overlay or a nice jacket.
Don’t be afraid to play with color. Try a sequined item in a bright hue or add a pop of color elsewhere in the outfit.
