How to Rebond Hair the Cheapest Way

by pinksoda

Finally my long wait is over! I just had my hair rebonded and guess what? I did not really spend so much to have my hair done (rebonded). I always had my hair straight but then I got bored with it and decided to have it curled. You know girls, always worried of how we look..I actually liked the curl effects on me, it gave me a different look…Until again I got bored of it and also I began to worry since I noticed frequent hair falls and my hair became hard to manage..I am almost afraid of combing it because of the hair fall whenever I do that and the breakage is just terrible! So then I decided to restore my old hair and old me but I was worried of the expenses because my hair is very long (waste length). I’ll be spending a fortune if I’ll have this done in the parlor.

So me and my friends decided to do it ourselves!! (geezzz! none of us ever did this before promise!) surprisingly I did not worry a bit! Our philisophy was “As long as we know how to read and follow the instruction, we will not go wrong!” So off we went to a beauty care store and asked the sales lady which hair rebonding treatment is best to use, she gave us a lot of tips and told us, there’s not much of difference between manufacturers. It all depends on how the chemical is applied and how the rebond is done. Okay, so we learned a lot from her. For my hair I decided to have AhGlow since according to the saleslady it is what my favorite parlor uses and it’s also a bit cheaper compared to Wella. For these 5 I spent 1,100 PHP and mind you, I did not consume all of it so I can still use it next time, my mom wanted to use it anyway :). When I went back to the office, we were happy to know that a lot noticed and gave me great comments and even asked who did it and how much did I spend for it!

I’ll show you how to do it and the result of my hair after the jump..

Here’s what we did

What You Need:

  • Ahglow rebonding system
  • Gloves
  • Glad wrap
  • Hair blower
  • Ceramic iron

Procedure: (I’m making this the easiest way possible to understand)

  1. (Unwashed hair) Using the strengthening cream, apply it into hair. Make sure you cover all the hair. Do it portion by portion.
  2. Β  Comb Hair (im not sure but as the application increased, we were no longer able to comb my hair as it became hard to do so), we continued to step 3 anyway
  3. Using a glad wrap cellophane – wrap your hair.
  4. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes. In my case since my hair was from curling treatment (8 months ago by the way so it’s safe to rebond), we had it for 45 minutes.
  5. Wash hair and do not shampoo.
  6. Blow dry hair and when damp, spray on the Ahglow keratin Hair Protek and continue to blow dry hair
  7. Iron the hair using your Ceramic Iron (should be paper thin each iron). Note that this part will take so much time since you have to iron hair carefully. Do not leave the iron into hair longer than 3 seconds.
  8. Apply Neutralizer Cream, the same manner that you did with the Strengthening cream. Leave for 15-20 minutes again.
  9. Rinse hair and this time use the Ahglow Keratin Conditioner (I think using other conditioner will do).
  10. Blow dry again your hair and when damp, spray on the Ahglow keratin Hair Protek and continue to blow dry hair
  11. Iron hair again using the Ceramic Iron. Apply small amount of Ahglow Hairkote, enough to make it shiny.

There you go!! That easy, no need to go to the parlor. This is even cheaper with the same result or even better than going to the salon! By the way it took us 6 to 7 hours to finish my hair. See results below.

Here are some basic but important UNSTRUCTIONS and some “Do’s and Dont’s” that you must strictly follow during the next 48-72 hours (2-3 days) AFTER your rebonding

There you go! hope that helps! I already washed my hair by the way and the result is still awesome! Welcome back my crowning glory!

What if kaka-color ko lang po ung hair last April 2017, is it advisable to the these steps? Or any suggestions po na treatment from ahglow for my hair? Thanks!

pinksoda July 15, 2017 - 12:59 pm

Yes, okay na mag rebond :). These steps are necessary to rebond the hair. After rebond, I suggest maintain it with hot oil monthly.

Joy May 9, 2012 - 2:52 pm

Hi, i have red your review regarding on how to do it yourself rebond, i was amazed by seeing the before and after pictures.. My friend bought me that product and i was thinking if its not enough for my hair. My hair is very kinky, since i don’t go to parlors (just only haircut), and the length is just a little bit shorter than yours. I am hoping that you if you can give me advice after rebonding on how to apply hair color, i will be glad to reply you back.. I just want to ask if which one is first, hair color or after rebonding then i apply it.. Hoping your reply soon! Thanks πŸ™‚

pinksoda May 14, 2012 - 6:11 am

Hi Joy! thank you for dropping by! Anyway, 1 box of Ahglow should be enough for your hair, if your friend bought you the smaller one, it’s just enough. I suggest you follow the instructions strictly and also when you do the ironing make sure you don’t stop at the middle of the hair (do it from roots to tip without stopping at any point of the hair, because it will cause brittleness).

As to the coloring of the hair, I remember being told doing the hair coloring a month after rebonding But to be sure, you may ask your beautician/expert about it (casual talk lang when you have your haircut).

Iceps June 27, 2012 - 4:25 pm

Where did you buy ahglow? Which is better ahglow or hortaleza? Tnx

pinksoda June 28, 2012 - 10:52 am

Hi Iceps..I would say Ahglow’s result is better compared to hortaleza. Just make sure that you apply it correctly and you take note of the time it stays on your hair.

pinksoda June 28, 2012 - 10:53 am

Oh by the way, I bought Ahglow from HBC. You can also check your local beauty shop store.

Most of the time the ironing ..leaving the chemical on the hair took less than 2 hours (strengthening and naturalizer). To iron the hair, you need to do it through thin sections to ensure full coverage.

this is way cheaper than going to a salon to have your hair rebonded. You just need a friend who is willing to spend their time to do this πŸ™‚

Rebonding is a time consuming it’s a long process that has to be done correctly to prevent hair from falling out. It takes a long time to be done but it’s good after the rebond. it’s nice though. Mine i had a rebond when i had our vacation last yr.

pinksoda May 30, 2013 - 4:40 am

Hello Maan,

I don’t really recommend doing it again soon. It is recommended that you repeat the process 6 months after as it can really harm the hair due to the chemical content of treatment. I suggest you have your hair treated instead to bring back its moisture. I tried one VCO hair treatment, this might be good for you. Please check out the link below.

Is it ok po if aftr rebonding unang naaply ung cellphane then laat application is neutralizer? Pls reply. Thnx!uses d same prod. (Ahglow)

pinksoda September 29, 2014 - 3:24 am

Hi! I’m sorry for this late response, I’ve been a bit busy lately. Anyway, which cellophane are you referring to? I assume not part of the kit? I think it is best to apply the neutralizer according to the instruction, in that way you are sure of the result.

Cellophane kasi is already a treatment/maintenance that you can do once a month after rebonding.

Hope that helps!

Mona December 29, 2014 - 4:47 am

Hi po, how to know if okay na yung hair i rinse after pag apply ng neutralizing cream, kasi po nakikita ko sa parlor parang gumagawa sila ng knot to know if okay na i rinse yung hair. Thankyou po

pinksoda January 10, 2015 - 2:18 am

Hi Mona,

I’m not sure why they do the knot thing, perhaps to see if it is smooth enough? not really sure. This you have to understand — Neutralizer locks the hair into the new shape. It halts the relaxing process and restore the pH balance to the hair.

My advise is to stick to the rebonding kit instructions regarding the neutralizer application. The product I used said to leave it on for 15-20 minutes, we did just that and the result was amazing.

Hey Jhenny,

Generally, it is not advised to repeat hair rebonding or straightener in that short span of time, but I have heard some acquaintances who went back to the salon after couple of days because they were not satisfied with the rebond result. I recommend seeking out a salon professional (so they can see you hair as well) to help you correct the problem while minimizing damage. I personally recommend doing it again 6 months after.

Be reminded that Hair rebonding makes your hair weak because the bonds of your hair are rearranged permanently due to the chemicals applied unto it it is also necessary to do a follow-up maintenance through hot oil treatments, cellophane etc.

Hello poh!

Hi Tintin! Personally I prefer brazilian blow-out kasi it gives the hair body and less chemical, it’s more of a treatment sa buhok compared to hair rebond where may hair straightening, stretching the hair to make it strength.

Thank you in advance.

pinksoda January 30, 2016 - 9:12 am

Hi! I bought it at HBC πŸ™‚

Julia February 7, 2016 - 6:29 pm

Is this different from ahglow hair relaxer? I can’t find it at HBC branches. πŸ™

pinksoda February 13, 2016 - 9:53 am

I think it’s different. The Rebonding System kit consists of the neutralizer and the straightening creams (separate bottles).

Hi Eden,

I haven’t tried using the hortaleza set. Wella lang ang na try ko apart from the AhGlow rebonding set. What’s important is you follow the directions carefully. If there’s something hindi clear sayo, please double check, or ask someone who knows.

At kailan ba pwd? At pwd bang alang blowr na gagamitin sa pag rebond? Plantsa lang kc ako mayron thnks po…

pinksoda April 29, 2016 - 4:46 am

Hi Miles,

Actually 3 days after pwede ka nang mag rebond. And yes, you can have your hair colored after rebond. Have you heard about kerabond? As to the blower, you definitely need it. Hindi kasi pwedeng iron mo sya kaagad.

Thanks for dropping by!

Nassirc July 1, 2016 - 12:38 am

Pwede q ba rebond sarili q?kpag sa palagay q makakaya q?kya lang nakakapagod magplantsa…

pinksoda August 9, 2016 - 1:45 pm

I won’t recommend doing it by yourself. Rebonding is a long and tedious process, you definitely need help. Find a friend who would love to do it with you…salitan kayo sa pagrebond. That’s what we did πŸ™‚

Thank you….

pinksoda August 5, 2017 - 3:42 am

Bought it before at HBC. Try your local beauty shops or yung mga maliliit lang na beauty stores selling products for the hair.

Rona February 10, 2017 - 3:19 am

pinksoda August 5, 2017 - 3:41 am

Oh gosh I can’t remember .. less than a thousand definitely and good for 2 persons na sya.

Ceramic iron is recommended.

Daryl September 12, 2017 - 12:14 pm

Minsan we can’t prevent na malagyan yung sa scalp, may tendency na it will be itchy, just spray a little water when it happens or tiis tiis until it’s time to rinse.
