Eyelash Extension Care Tips

So I am finally digging the eyelash extension fad. I went to our local eyelash extension salon and had mine done. This is basically my first time to do it (I thought it’s my second time but I remember what I had before wasn’t eyelash extension but the eyelash perming). So since it’s my first time, I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with the result so I decided to just have the thick small length but I was told that it does not make much difference as the thin small lashes is of the same length with my original (uh okay, that confirms my lashes are not that hopeless! **yay!**). So with little hesitation, I opted for the thin-medium length.

It took the eyelash extension technician probably less than an hour to complete the task (I guess she is that skilled!). Looking at myself in the mirror, I’m glad the result wasn’t bad and overwhelming (phew!). It’s really a bit uncomfortable probably on my first day with it, there’s this unusual feeling from my eyelashes whenever I close my eyes — not much of a big deal, it’s just that unusual feel.

If like me, you also had your eyelashes (extended?), find these tips below helpful to make it last a bit longer. I was told that this will last 2 months maximum — though I am guessing, it’ll fall off after 4 weeks. Anyway, check out some eyelash extension care tips below.

Give your lashes some TLC – You can still put on an eye makeup  (liner, shadow, etc.) but you need to be extra careful in removing them. Gently go over the area with a cleansing wipe instead of placing cotton pads or puffs over your lids as it will not only weaken the extensions eventually, the cotton fibers will also get stuck on your lashes.  Have your makeup remover Cleansing Towelettes ready!

Lube them up! – You were probably told (like me) to keep your lash extension dry all the time for it to stay longer. Lubing them up actually makes the extension stay nicer and longer. And this keeps them flexible.  Just rub a drop of baby oil on them with your fingers.

Sleep on your back – If you love to sleep on your belly, consider changing your position if you have your eyelashes extensions. Well don’t worry, you can resume to your normal sleeping position after a day or two — just enough time for the extension’s glue to dry fully.

Resist playing with them – I know it’s fun to touch those longer and softer eyelashes but please! for the life of it, resist playing with them. In the case of an extension looking out of place, avoid playing with it or twisting or pulling it off—OR you’ll risk losing your natural lashes (eeekk! scary!).  Let them come out on their own, and use a spoolie (my lifesaver!) to brush them back into place in the meantime.

Comb them out. To prevent any criss-crossing or wonky-looking lashes, use a spoolie (again! I love my little spoolie) wand. Close one eye, place the spoolie on top of your lashes, then roll the brush over lashes to keep them defined.
